Went From Blowing Out Air Filters Every Two Days to Twice a Season: Cole the Cornstar’s Experience with Hillco Air Flow Systems

From cleaning air filters every two days to twice a season? That's what we like to hear!

If you follow Cole the Cornstar on YouTube, you’ve probably seen your fair share of equipment projects, long days in the field, and plenty of dust. In a recent video, Cole gave viewers a look at another project underway at Cornstar Farms: installing a Hillco Air Flow System (AFS) on their combine.

Our Midwest representative, Travis Mullenger, stopped by to help with the installation. However, this was not Cole’s first experience with Hillco’s air pre-cleaning technology.

A Few Years of Experience & Way Less Filter Cleaning

Cole shared that Cornstar Farms installed a Hillco Air Flow System on their Case IH Magnum 340 tractor a few years ago, and the results have made an impression.

“We went from blowing out the filter like every two days to like twice a season.”– Cole

After roughly three years of running the system on their Magnum 340, Cole says they’ve been super impressed. And anyone who’s spent time cleaning plugged air filters in dusty field conditions can appreciate the difference in labor and productivity.

With that experience, the Cornstar crew decided to give Hillco’s Air Flow System a try on their combine, too.

Taking on Dusty Harvest Conditions

Combine harvesters kick up an incredible amount of dust and chaff, especially when conditions get dry or, like with Cole’s experience, in Soybeans.

Hillco’s Air Flow System is a centrifugal engine air pre-cleaner designed to separate dust and debris from incoming air before it reaches the engine’s primary air filter. The goal is simple: reduce filter loading, cut down on unnecessary maintenance, and help keep equipment working in dusty conditions.

During the installation, Cole points out that the auxiliary intake draws air from higher up alongside the machine, where the air may be cleaner than around the factory intake.

Combined with Hillco’s dust-separation technology, that gives the system another opportunity to reduce the amount of debris reaching the filter.

Cole summed up his expectations pretty well:

“I’m super excited about getting this on the combine.”

Judging by the clouds of dust rolling through the field later in the video, they’ll have plenty of opportunity to put it to the test!

See It in Action at Cornstar Farms

We always enjoy seeing our equipment working on farms across the country, especially when we get to hear directly from the people running it.

A big thanks to Cole and the Cornstar Farms crew for sharing their experience, and to Travis for getting out in the field and making the with the installation.

We’re looking forward to hearing how the combine’s new Air Flow System performs!

Watch Cole’s video below to hear about his experience with Hillco and see the new installation.

How to Install the Hillco Pivoting Spout on a Case IH Combine

If you want better control over where grain lands in the cart, the Hillco Pivoting Spout is a practical upgrade for your Case IH combine. From the cab, a foot switch moves the spout through 37 degrees of travel, allowing you to direct the grain stream closer to or farther away from the combine without repositioning the machine.
